The Waters Kids Ministry Internship is a paid, hands-on ministry opportunity designed to develop future leaders in children’s ministry. This internship combines spiritual formation, leadership development, and real ministry responsibility within Waters Kids.
As an intern, you will will help lead one or more Kids Ministry environments serving children from infancy through elementary age, partnering closely with volunteers, parents, and ministry leadership to create safe, engaging, and Christ-centered spaces. You will be assigned to a primary environment (Early Development, Preschool, or Elementary) by the Children’s Ministry Director based on ministry needs, individual gifting, and growth goals. Each environment plays a vital role in discipling children and supporting families and requires leadership, consistency, and initiative.
Key Responsibilities (All Kids Environments)
- Recruit, schedule, and support volunteer teams
- Provide leadership within assigned rooms during weekend services
- Build healthy, trusting relationships with volunteers and parents
- Maintain room cleanliness, organization, and safety during services and throughout the week
- Prepare environments weekly (toys, visuals, videos, supplies)
- Communicate clearly with ministry leadership and volunteers
- Model Christlike character and servant leadership
Environment-Specific Responsibilities
Early Development (Infants–Toddlers)
- Maintain safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environments
- Rotate toys and sensory materials
- Support volunteers in caregiving rhythms and safety procedures
- Partner closely with parents to build trust and consistency
Preschool
- Write and prepare lesson plans
- Lead storytelling, worship, and activity-based learning
- Rotate environment videos and classroom visuals
- Establish engaging and predictable classroom rhythms
Elementary
- Facilitate curriculum and lead lessons and small groups
- Organize and oversee game zone flow and function
- Support small group leaders during services
- Help children engage Scripture in age-appropriate ways

Formation & Development
This internship is intentionally designed to prepare individuals for future ministry leadership and potential staff roles. Interns will receive:
- Weekly spiritual formation through devotionals and mentoring
- Ongoing coaching and feedback
- Gradual increases in leadership responsibility
- Exposure to ministry systems, planning, and communication
Child Safety & Background Requirements
Because this role involves working with children and students, all interns are required to successfully complete a background check and participate in the church’s child safety training prior to beginning their internship. This includes adhering to all Waters Church child protection policies to ensure a safe, secure, and healthy environment for every child, student, and volunteer.

Compensation: This is a paid summer internship, $1,000 bi-weekly.
